Hiring Hubs: Why We’re Adopting a More Targeted Recruitment Strategy

Samantha Lewis

Editor’s Note

Our number one priority is and will always be to deliver a high-quality candidate experience no matter the outcome of their application. But while recruiting nationwide allowed us to tap into a broad talent pool, it also brought unique challenges, especially when application volume has remained steadily and markedly higher than we’ve experienced historically.

The case for ‘hiring hubs’

As Terakeet evolves, our small but mighty Talent Acquisition team remains nimble alongside the changing needs of the organization. Working with a national talent pool presents challenges, particularly when it comes to fostering meaningful connections with candidates in a persistently saturated talent market.

We asked ourselves how we could maintain the human element of recruiters personally reviewing applications while keeping the process moving along at a reasonable pace. The answer came to us through employee feedback reflecting a desire for deeper team connectivity.

To address these concerns, we have shifted to a more targeted hiring approach, focusing our recruitment efforts in key cities to enhance both candidate experience and possibilities for team collaboration.

By concentrating hiring efforts in specific locations, we aim to deepen our engagement with talent in those areas. This approach enables us to facilitate in-person networking opportunities and to build a stronger sense of community among job-seekers and our existing employees in those areas.

We’re confident this will deliver a better experience to candidates throughout the hiring process and into their time with us as an employer.

The decision process

Our hiring hubs are Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; Austin, TX; Charlotte, NC; Atlanta, GA; Phoenix, AZ; Minneapolis, MN; and Syracuse, NY. These cities were selected based on several factors, including these:

  • Diverse Talent Pools: These locations are home to skilled professionals across industries aligned with our business needs.
  • Strategic Alignment with Company Goals: Each city provides opportunities for growth, collaboration, and partnerships.
  • Current Employee Distribution: Many of our existing employees are already based nearer to one of these hubs than they are to our Syracuse, NY, headquarters, making it easier to coordinate in-person interactions across the country.
  • Accessibility & Infrastructure: These cities provide ample travel options, venues for events, and cost-effective opportunities for gathering employees.

By focusing on these strategic locations, we can increase connectivity while maintaining the flexibility of a remote-first company.

Benefits to candidates and our employees

Looking ahead, our hiring hubs will help unlock in-person collaboration while keeping the benefits of remote work. Establishing these strategic locations creates a more flexible work environment that serves a wider range of employee needs.

For job seekers and candidates alike, our hiring hubs offer several advantages:

  • More Meaningful In-Person Opportunities: While remote work remains our standard, candidates will have the chance to meet potential colleagues, attend in-person events, and engage in-person with the company culture in a local setting.
  • Improved Onboarding Experience: In select cases, candidates may have the option for in-person interviews or onboarding sessions, making the transition into the company more seamless.
  • Enhanced Career Development & Support: These hubs will facilitate mentorship, training, and networking, helping employees integrate into the company more smoothly.

As we continue to grow, we are committed to evolving our workplace strategies to meet the needs of both employees and job seekers. Whether you are looking for a fully remote role or one with occasional in-person engagement, our hiring hubs will provide opportunities to connect and learn within the company.
