Work Hard, Play Hard: Terakeet Field Day 2019

Terakeet

Terakeet Field Day, which began back in 2014, is an annual event that allows employees to break away from the office and interact with coworkers outside of our typical work environment.

This year, the cool weather hit just when we gathered along Onondaga Lake in Liverpool for delicious food, music, and outdoor activities. And with it came the denim jackets!

There were plenty of games to play (including UNO, football, frisbee, and cornhole) while waiting for our first group activity: the water balloon toss. After some nerve-wracking lobs and impressive grabs, teammates Andrew Cummings and Ryan Maxson won a sudden death tiebreaker. Andrew was particularly excited.

Our next event, kickball, was competitive and fast-paced. We played a few innings as the wind picked up off the lake. The colder weather didn’t stop us, though — we just put on our Terakeet-branded Patagonias and kept going.

When it was time to eat, nearly 200 employees made their way to the barbeque buffet catered by Limp Lizard. Of course, we saved room for a visit from Skippy’s Ice Cream truck for dessert. The soft serve was just the right balance for our pulled pork, potatoes, and vegetables.

After the activities at Onondaga Lake Park, most of us headed just down the road to The Retreat. We packed into the outdoor patio and continued the games, like human-sized Jenga (very loud when it fell)!

We all create bonds in different ways; some of us are shy, some are outgoing, some are more sporty and some are more social. Spending an afternoon playing games gives us all an opportunity to nurture relationships we have or forge new ones with teammates we don’t yet know. And, at the rate we’ve been growing lately, there’s plenty of new people to meet.

Aside from their entertainment value, these activities really work to strengthen our core values as a company beyond the product offerings we serve up to our customers. Not everyone could win the balloon toss, but the day was dedicated to growing as a team, and from that perspective, we all walked away feeling like winners. Though fast-growing, we should never forget the importance of developing and bonding as a team.

Terakeet’s vision is more than just building a great company. Located in the heart of downtown Syracuse, we also want to be part of the change happening in this city. We have the chance to show what it looks like to be part of an extraordinary local team.

Will we see you at our next field day? Check out our openings to find the right fit for you!
