Humans of Terakeet: Alexus Martin

Editor’s Note:

The Outreach Department here at Terakeet is one of the hardest working departments. Our teammates who make up this department are incredible individuals who provide real value to our customers and our organization every day of the week. Part-Time Digital Outreach Specialist Alexus Martin is one such amazing ‘Keeter, and we sat down with her this week (virtually) to talk about having your work go viral, TikTok, and the importance of a great Earth, Wind & Fire tune. Read on to get the full interview!

Q1: How did you come to work at Terakeet? What is your favorite part about working here?

I actually randomly met Mac’s [Terakeet Co-Founder and CEO Mac Cummings] wife many years ago and she encouraged me to apply for an intern position while I was still in college, but I chickened out because SEO was so foreign to me. Fast forward to 2020, I was laid off from my job at the public library due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A former TK employee who serves on a local board with my stepfather reached out about some open positions here. At the time, I was seeking part-time employment and there were only full-time positions available. The very next day, I decided to take another look at TK’s careers page and there was a part-time position! So, I applied, interviewed, and got the job shortly after.

My favorite part about working at Terakeet is the flexibility. A flexible, part-time schedule along with the ability to work remotely allows me to continue my full-time volunteer work.

Q2: Tell us a little more about you outside of work! What’s one thing most people wouldn’t know about you?

When I’m not working, you can catch me scrolling through TikTok, rewatching The Office like it’s my job, online shopping, eating, and taking naps at the most inopportune times.

One thing most people wouldn’t know about me is that I had an advice column in my high school’s newspaper called “Questions for the Queen” and I won a national journalism award for one of the pieces I wrote.

Q3: What’s your current obsession?

TikTok

Q4: Choose a movie title for the story of your life.

“Fair Enough”

Q5: What’s the strangest/coolest thing that’s ever happened to you?

One of the coolest things that has ever happened to me was having an article I wrote for Buzzfeed go viral.

Q6: What would your desert island band/artist be, and why?

Earth, Wind & Fire. You just can’t go wrong with Earth, Wind & Fire.

Q7: What is one thing you’ve tried recently that has helped you stay calm and focused?

Prayer.
